Expedia currently works with two contract models: Expedia Collect and Expedia Traveler Preference.

Before canceling a reservation made through Expedia, it’s important to check which agreement type is active for your listing.

Expedia Collect

In this model, Expedia processes the payment directly with the guest.

Therefore, if you need to cancel a reservation, you should contact the Expedia team directly. They will review the case or may guide the guest to cancel on their own.

In some cases, the cancellation may result in charges or fees (for either the guest or the host), according to the policies set for the reservation.

Expedia Traveler Preference

With this option, the guest chooses how they want to pay:

  • at the time of booking, directly to Expedia; or
  • at check-in, directly to the host.

If the payment method defined by Expedia isn’t ideal for the guest, they can contact the channel and request a change.

General guidelines

  • Don’t manually delete reservations from Stays, as this can create availability conflicts between channels.
  • In specific situations, such as booking reconciliation or no-shows, Expedia may advise manual deletion.
  • Always confirm the contract model and Expedia’s instructions before changing or canceling any reservation.
